After leaving out players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma for the second One-Day International against the West Indies on Saturday in Barbados, India set out to find some solutions. However, the squad struggled against the Windies’ bowling onslaught and fell short by 6 wickets. The 90-run partnership between Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan for the first wicket was the game’s lone bright spot. The latter broke the long-standing record of Pakistan skipper Babar Azam in one-day internationals after scoring a run-a-ball 55 while his partner added 34 runs.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-104289″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/theindiaprint.com-tripuras-iconic-ujjayanta-palace-to-become-weekend-tourism-hub-102241847-11zon-750×422.png” alt=”” width=”1480″ height=”833″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/theindiaprint.com-tripuras-iconic-ujjayanta-palace-to-become-weekend-tourism-hub-102241847-11zon-750×422.png 750w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/theindiaprint.com-tripuras-iconic-ujjayanta-palace-to-become-weekend-tourism-hub-102241847-11zon-1024×576.png 1024w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/theindiaprint.com-tripuras-iconic-ujjayanta-palace-to-become-weekend-tourism-hub-102241847-11zon-768×432.png 768w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/theindiaprint.com-tripuras-iconic-ujjayanta-palace-to-become-weekend-tourism-hub-102241847-11zon-390×220.png 390w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/theindiaprint.com-tripuras-iconic-ujjayanta-palace-to-become-weekend-tourism-hub-102241847-11zon-150×84.png 150w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/theindiaprint.com-tripuras-iconic-ujjayanta-palace-to-become-weekend-tourism-hub-102241847-11zon.png 1280w” sizes=”(max-width: 1480px) 100vw, 1480px” />

Shubman overtook Babar on the list of hitters with the most runs scored after 26 innings in the 50-over format thanks to their 34 runs. By the end of the first 26 ODI innings, Babar had scored 1322 runs. However, Gill narrowly outpaced him with 1352 runs. Jonathan Trott of England is at the top of the list with 1303 runs, followed by Fakhar Zaman of Pakistan (1275 runs), and Rassie van der Dussen of South Africa (1267 runs).

India’s batting display was awful, as they went from 90/0 to 181 all-out in 40.2 overs.

The tragedy hit India immediately before the first rain delay, halfway through their innings, when the visitors lost two wickets off consecutive deliveries, falling to 113/5 in the 25th over from 95/2 in the 18th over. Kishan and Shubman raised 90 runs.

Axar Patel, who was sent in at number 4, also struggled, scoring only one run in eight balls. In place of the actual captain, Hardik Pandya attempted to draw a bouncer from Jayden Seales about shoulder height, but he failed and it went straight to Brandon King at midwicket. In the last ball of the 24th over, Pandya became the fourth hitter to be struck out.

Sanju Samson (9) was dismissed off the first pitch of the 25th over when he edged leg spinner Yannic Cariah to King in the slips. He had shaped up to smash the ball square, but the ball grabbed the edge after spinning and bouncing off his bat.

Before Brandon King came in, Kyle Mayers swiftly responded to India’s 181 runs by driving and flicking India’s new-ball duo of Hardik Pandya and Mukesh Kumar. King then passed 1000 ODI runs by hitting back-to-back boundaries off Umran Malik.

Hope later reached his fifty in 70 balls, helping his side surpass the 150-run threshold in the process. Although the duo didn’t exactly deal in boundaries till the very end, they seized charge of the chase and made sure West Indies easily reached the goal.
