<p>‘Cinema as a Catalyst for Change’ was the focus of a key event that National Commission for Women (NCW), Netflix, and Annapurna Studios presented in Hyderabad.<br />

<p>Rekha Sharma, the NCW chair, described her emotions when she saw women advance significantly in the film industry. She emphasized the industry’s ongoing gender pay discrepancy and advocated for the acknowledgement of women’s value while promoting pay equality. She exhorted everyone to continue the dialogue in order to work toward a more promising and inclusive future for the film industry.</p>
<p>Anjani Kumar, the Telangana DGP, presented his deep thoughts on the transforming potential of film during the ceremony. He said that movies are a catalyst for change and not only for amusement. He gave instances of major blockbusters that addressed important social concerns including drug usage, widow remarriage, and the suffering of sex workers. He emphasized the significance of carrying on the conversation in order to rework the story.</p>
<p>Meenakshi Negi, Member Secretary, underlined the idea that it’s time for movies to reject clichés and show women as strong, multidimensional characters rather than helpless damsels in need. She urged a conversation that emphasizes strength and changes how women are depicted on television and in movies.</p>
<p>It was emphasized during the first panel discussion that it was the industry’s collective duty to highlight courageous tales. The players in the business recognized their part in promoting storylines that empower and inspire. The panelists all agreed that the tales they decide to tell had the ability to influence views and spur change.</p>
<p>The second panel was distinguished by important topical debates that provoked thinking. The possibility of making financially successful movies with mostly female characters and topics was one important issue brought up.</p>
<p>This sparked a further in-depth investigation into how OTT platforms have become popular, partially as a result of their attractiveness to a mostly female audience, which contrasts with the conventional cinema-going population. These discussions brought home how crucial it is to address gender representation both in front of and behind the camera in order to satisfy changing viewer tastes.</p>
